LHC phase 1 ended
16/06/2026
Special news: LHC phase 1 ended on Sunday June 14, 2026 with a fantastic succes. The delivered dataset is slightly larger than what was planned 20 years ago: more than 500fb-1 of proton-proton collisions delivered to the ATLAS and CMS experiments, those experiments where the H boson was discovered leading to the Nobel prize 2013 in physics to François Englert from ULB and Peter Higgs from University of Edinburgh.
The CMS collaboration, of which the IIHE is a founding institute, published 1498 journal articles to date, with many more to come.
See now all participating labs contribute to the new CMS, for the high-luminosity phase foreseen to start in 2030.
