Production of the new CMS tracker started at the IIHE

The production of the new CMS tracker modules started in Brussels. These modules will replace the present CMS tracker for the high-luminosity phase of the particle collider LHC at CERN, foreseen to take data for 15 years starting in 2030.

A pipeline of 7 modules, with a new module started every day, has been completed successfully. Each module comprises 2 silicon sensors with 2032 strips each, precisely aligned, and read out by microelectronics chips.
